Magdalena Ramada Sarasola

Director- Senior Economist, Willis Towers Watson

Magdalena is a Director at Willis Towers Watson’s Insurance Consulting and Technology and leads the firm’s insurance-focused R&D efforts around insurtech and blockchain technology. She joined the firm as a Senior Economist at Willis Towers Watson’s Research and Innovation Center in 2005. She has 20+ years of experience in R&D and international consulting and was Willis Towers Watson’s Head of Research and Analytical Services. Magda holds a M.Sc. in math. Finance and a PhD in Quantitative Economics and Finance.

She currently focuses on innovation and strategic consulting for the Insurance Industry, especially around blockchain/distributed ledger technologies, emerging risks and markets and #insurtech.

She was among the first to publish and discuss blockchain in the context of insurance and has focused almost exclusively on helping the insurance industry to understand and deploy blockchain/distributed ledger technologies for the past 3 years.

In the past year and a half, Magda has had over 55 public speaking engagements specific to insurtech and blockchain at various international conferences and summits, and has published multiple articles, blogs, interviews and audio/visual media on the topic. She sees herself as a blockchain crusader and devotes significant time to blockchain educational activities, ranging from workshops for executives to sessions at elementary schools.

Her main areas of expertise include technology and innovation, MNC internationalization strategies, emerging markets, global governance, macroeconomic and sociopolitical risks.

Magdalena has 15 years of teaching experience at European (Germany, UK) and Latin American universities. She also led many research projects for multilateral organizations on microinsurance, financial inclusion and innovation, including pre-2009 projects on alternative currencies.
